About the Workshop
Heavy Ion Reaction Analyzer (HIRA) and HYbrid Recoil mass Analyzer (HYRA), the two recoil mass spectrometers/separators in India, have been catering to the measurements of nuclear reactions around the Coulomb barrier and in (or around) the direction of primary beam, such as fusion-evaporation reactions through efficient separation and detection of evaporation residues (ERs) and transfer reactions /quasi elastic scattering processes by efficient separation and detection of target-like recoil ions. The primary beam rejection capability spans from 1E8 to 1E12 decided by the reaction kinematics and mode of operation. HIRA provides mass (m/q) information below and around mass 100 amu region while HYRA operated in gas-filled mode offers increased efficiency to study the survival probability of heavy ERs which survive fission. Several experiments have been performed with HIRA and HYRA coupled to ancillary devices for specific reaction measurements. BGO array coupled to HIRA and TIFR 4 PI Spin Spectrometer coupled to HYRA have helped in extracting ER spin distributions, in addition to ER cross sections and barrier distributions. In addition, unstable secondary beams of low intensity can be produced using HIRA and HYRA. A two-day workshop will be held at Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) on August 24 and 25, 2023 to discuss recent nuclear reaction measurements using HIRA and HYRA, status of analyses, salient results obtained and to plan future collaborative experiments. Presentations by users, faculty and/or research scholars, followed by detailed discussions are envisaged. A session will be dedicated to future experiments and the associated developments that are required. Interested researchers pursuing nuclear reactions may apply online for participation in the workshop by July 31, 2023. Selected participants will be informed by August 7, 2023. TA/DA will be provided to selected participants from universities who are eligible as per IUAC rules.
