About the School

Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), an autonomous Centre of University Grants Commission under Ministry of Education, GOI, plans to conduct an online school-cum-training on “Detector Simulation using GEANT4 at beginner's level" on 26th - 29 th October, 2021. School is meant for young researchers (students pursuing PhDs, post-doctoral fellows, young Faculties and Scientists from Indian Institutes/ Universities) with working knowledge of Radiation Detectors. Basic Knowledge of Coding in C++ and working experience in Linux OS are prerequisites.

Theme of the school

Radiation Detectors are our eyes to look at the invisible world of energy and matter. They are widely used in the field of Physics, Medicine, Home Security, Industry, etc and even in daily life. They function based on the different physics processes happening while radiation interacts with matter. Geant (GEometry ANd Tracking) is a toolkit for simulating the passage of particles/radiation through matter using Monte Carlo methods. It provides facilities for handling geometry, tracking, detector response, run management, visualization and user interface.
